Our Story
Lyndon Bible Church started as a small bible study of ladies who were determined to uphold their belief in the authority of God’s Word in the face of liberal doctrines their church had fallen into. They were joined by others including students from the Bible Institute of New England in nearby St Johnsbury and incorporated as a church in 1967.

They met in a series of locations starting in the Breslin Center, then the Congregational church in Lyndon Corner, then next door in the Grange Hall. They originally were led by elders and eventually added teaching pastors. The church almost closed in the 1980’s due to leadership failures but a small group who remained felt God wanted them to continue.

Through a series of divine connections Pastor Joel was called in 1991 with the goal of taking the church back into the community. Recognizing that one of our main problems to growth was our lack of identity in the community, due in part to the lack of a building, we began to pray about stepping out in faith to build a facility. Through a series of miraculous provisions we were able to secure land and then build a building in 2004.

Our building was paid off in 2009 in what we call “the miracle of the mortgage” when the church was experiencing financial difficulties and was considering refinancing our mortgage among other measures. Our people instead urged us to trust God and take a special offering. The result was a $48,000 sacrificial gift offering that restored our fiscal balance and paid off our mortgage exactly five years to the day that we had made a decision as a church five years earlier to trust God to do so.

Since then we have sought to continue to keep our focus on making disciples through the unchanging message of the gospel even as we attempt to respond to the changes in our culture. Through all of this we hold onto the truth that “Jesus is enough” for all people, in all circumstances, for all time.
